The little state of Rhode Island serves as a great model for all that is wrong with the American political system.  Citizens know full well that Congress is controlled by campaign money, and it serves the interests of campaign donors and not the public.  The public favors Medicare for all, but not Congress, the public favors bringing banks and the financial world under greater control, but not Congress, the public favors a $15. per hour minimum wage, but not Congress, the public favors regulation of drug costs, but not Congress.

A Providence cop is going viral on video, for bashing a woman’s face forcefully, and deliberately three times in a row when she showed passive resistance to an extremely brutal arrest.
The blond woman was wearing knee high black boots and a revealing outfit that looked like what anyone might wear to a nightclub.
A pair of Providence cops arrested the scantily clad woman on the front doorstep of a home, and she appeared to give passive resistance, refusing to stand.

Two people were bitten by a black mammal at a Walmart in Westerly, Rhode Island, on July 4. Neither of the individuals have come forward, and authorities are trying to hunt them down for fear of their lives.
The incident occurred inside or near the store between 4 and 5 p.m., according to a statement released by the state Health Department. The warning was released jointly with the Department of Environmental Management.

Rhode Island Rep. Dennis M. Canario is reintroducing a bill that would label foods containing genetically modified ingredients, ultimately allowing consumers to know what they are eating.
Like many have said before him, people have the right to know if the food they are eating contains man-made, DNA-altered creations.

In yet another move against Monsanto, legislation was introduced on January 15th in Rhode Island which calls for the labeling of any foods created using genetically engineered ingredients. The bill would effectively place a label on any food containing GMOs, stating “produced with genetic engineering,” and would specify what the term ‘genetically engineered product’ means.

Providence College (PC) in Rhode Island is a small Catholic institution perhaps more famous for its prowess in basketball than for graduating former US Senator Chris Dodd (CT-D) and six term Chicago Mayor Richard Daly. Founded by Dominican Friars in 1917, the college lately finds itself split between its Catholic identity and its commitment to academic freedom and inquiry, especially on issues such as LGBTQ rights. The motto of PC is “Veritas” but truth is sometimes difficult to determine when science and society butt up against religion and dogma.

In early February, Providence mayoral candidate Brett Smiley, who is running in the Democratic primary but currently holds no elected position, submitted a bill to the Rhode Island General Assembly with the help of State Senator Gayle Goldin and State Representative Maria Cimini that, if passed, would impose a ten percent sales tax on all guns and ammo sold in Rhode Island.
