Trump's overtly racist campaign for president in 2016 increased Jewish participation and their percentage of the electorate rose from 2% in 2008 and 2012 to 3% in 2016. You know what else rose? In the 2012 election 69% of Jewish voters cast their ballots for President Obama and 30% voted for Mitt Romney. With Trump on the ballot, 71% of Jews voted for Hillary and just 24% voted for Trump.
"Look at him," a senior Democratic congressman told me recently, less in disgust and more in pity, "he needs a crane to get him out of that chair. He's just let himself go..." Jim Clyburn (D-SC) may be in the worst shape of the three, but Clyburn is the "baby" of the the geriatric triumvirate at the top of the House Democratic caucus. Steny Hoyer turns 80 a week from next Friday. Pelosi's 80th isn't for another 9 months. Meanwhile, Clyburn won't even turn 79 til next month! It's absolutely insane that the 3 of them haven't retired. Do they think they're all that indispensable?
I love hearing John Oliver make an argument. He's my second favorite news anchor-- after Chris Hayes. When I heard the video above, I was in another room and didn't realize it wasn't Oliver. It sounded brilliant and it made the news fun, the way he does. But it was actually a very serious-- deadly serious journalist Mehdi Hasan, speaking for The Intercept. Please watch it; Hasan takes apart one lame anti-impeachment argument after another apart.On Friday Jerry Nadler, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, was a guest on WNYC.
In a tweet early Monday, Bernie reminded Trump that he's "not a dictator. In our democracy, he wrote, "when Congress calls on Robert Mueller to testify, he will testify." Maybe he will; maybe he won't. But Democratic Party primacy voters-- as well as most independent voters-- certainly appreciate the effort. Democratic primary voters favor impeaching Trump over the Mueller report.
