There are 22 congressional districts that Trump won in 2016 that turned around and elected a non-incumbent Democrat two years later. None of the 7 California freshmen are included:

Katie Hill-- a target for right-wing Republicans AND right-wing DemocratsWhen I met Katie Hill for the first time-- a month or so before she officially decided to run for the seat occupied by generally unpopular GOP incumbent-- I was really excited. She said all the right things. Problem, of course, is that everybody has his or her own definition of what "progressive" means. Even Pelosi claims to be a progressive.

When I first met Katie through a mutual friend a couple of years ago, she was about to declare her candidacy. She was new and green and eager. Perhaps there was a gap between what she was saying and what I was understanding, but she appeared to be telling me she was a progressive. No doubt I was eager to hear that. In follow-up conversations and e-mails, that was reinforced.

Anyone who has followed this blog for the past half dozen years knows Dr. Lee Rogers, primarily because he ran for Congress in CA-25 twice. The heart of the district is Santa Clarita but spreads south to Porter Ranch, west into Simi Valley, north as far as Gorman and east to Palmdale and up to Lancaster in the Antelope Valley.

Katie Hill was endorsed by Judy Chu, one of the most fiercely progressive members of CongressCA-25 has gradually gone from a deep red district to a blue district. In 2016 everyone though a Democrat would finally take over the congressional seat from a weak and extremist Republican incumbent, Steve Knight.

The DCCC has mostly stayed out of the California Democratic primaries... but that changed this week. So far they've just been getting some of their puppet organizations to weigh in on the side of their corrupt conservative recruits.

Neither Frank Schaeffer nor Katie Hill is a Trump fan— though Katie’s opponent, Steve Knight, is as Trumped-up as possible. He's one of Trump's most devoted partisans in Washington. CA-25, which spans the Antelope Valley, the Santa Clarita Valley and Simi Valley, has a Democratic voter registration advantage— and a very weak Republican incumbent. Why? Hillary won CA-25 pretty substantially— 50.3% to 43.6%.
