Sjungom studentens lyckliga dag!
Local Elections in Cambodia: Wake Up Call for the Ruling Elites?
At the beginning of the month Cambodia hosted local elections that precede parliamentary elections that are scheduled on the summer of 2018. In this context, the role that local elections play in the political life of the country can hardly be overestimated, since they serve as a display of the ideas and moods that dominate the Cambodian political scene and can be regarded as an indicator of the course that the parliamentary elections are going to take.

The Summer of Love and the Winter of National Insecurity
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Northerntruthseeker Rant For Sunday, June 18th, 2017
Sunday... It may be late Sunday, and I am crossing my fingers that I am able to complete this rant tonight... And away we go....First, it is of course Fathers Day and I do want to once again wish a Happy Fathers Day to all of the very hard working fathers out there... We usually are not appreciated for our efforts...My own father passed away some 18 years ago from the ravages of Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease... It was indeed sad to watch before his passing how much his sharp mind had deteriorated, and to watch him become basically a vegetable was very hard to swallow at the time...

He’s a a team builder-- called the “dreamers dreamer” by those who know him best.

Can A Moral Victory Become An Actual Victory?
-by Zack LykeI had just come off managing the Wakely 2016 campaign. I was tired. The team scrapped, we fought, but ultimately we failed. There were some positive signs, though. Numbers that exceeded experts’ projections and progressive enthusiasm that folks in the area had long forgotten or abandoned. At the North East Bexar County Democrats club meeting this past December, in the middle of my presentation of the club’s coordinated campaign efforts, a man rose and suggested the club give a standing ovation for Wakely’s 2016 efforts. That man had also run against Lamar Smith, twice.

BREAKING: Iran launches ballistic missiles at terrorists in Eastern Syria
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency has reported that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have launched a ground-to-ground ballistic missile attack on terrorist targets in the Eastern Syrian Governorate of Deir ez-Zor. The missiles were reportedly launched from the western Iranian provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan.
Deir ez-Zor is at this point in time, the most prominent hot-spot of ISIS in Syria, in many ways even more than Raqqa. Recent reports have surfaced of both the US and its Kurdish dominated SFD allies allowing ISIS leaders out of Raqqa. In most cases they are fleeing to Deir ez-Zor. -

Peter Van Buren on Moral Injury and Hooper’s War
As research for Hooper’s War: A Novel of WWII Japan I encountered people suffering in ways they had a hard time describing but which they wrestled with God over everyday. They told me they went away to fight with an idea “we’re the good guys, they’re not” that did not always survive the test of events. They spoke of a depth of pain that needed an end, some end, and for too many, as many as 22 a day every day, any end, even suicide.

Canada introduces Orwellian speech code on gender pronouns
Canada’s Senate passed the Justin Trudeau Liberals’ transgender rights bill unamended this afternoon by a vote of 67 to 11, with three abstentions.
The bill adds “gender expression” and “gender identity” to Canada’s Human Rights Code and to the Criminal Code’s hate crime section. With the Senate clearing the bill with no amendments, it requires only royal assent in the House of Commons to become law.
Critics warn that under Bill C-16, Canadians who deny gender theory could be charged with hate crimes, fined, jailed, and compelled to undergo anti-bias training. -
