377: The Shift - A Casual Conversation With Julia Tourianski (2 of 2)

Juila Tourianski, creator of Brave the World, joins me for a continuation of our previous discussion. Julia's online hub is a YouTube channel with very impressive production values and some extremely confronting content. Born in the USSR and raised in Canada, Julia offers several new and unique approaches to discussing the philosophy of liberty. Her video, "The Shift: The State of Our Minds and the Mind of the State" provides the springboard and loose structure for our pleasantly meandering conversation. Please watch the video before the show if you can:Topics and Tangents:1. THE INSULT OF EQUALITY-today equality means "all the same"-an entitlement to perpetuate baseless ideas-our only differences are externally imposed injustices?-deserve-oriented language and belief-equality is the ultimate demotivation2. CHAOS BEGETS FREEDOM-"give them too many pieces to pick up"-collectivism-conformity and bullying3. IT'S HARD TO SEE A WAY FORWARD FROM HERE, CONFLICT:-"Collectivism maintains that an elite endowed with special mystic insight should rule men—which implies the existence of an elite source of knowledge, a fund of revelations inaccessible to logic and transcending the mind. Collectivism denies that men should deal with one another by voluntary means, settling their disputes by a process of rational persuasion; it declares that men should live under the reign of physical force (as wielded by the dictator of the omnipotent state)—a position which jettisons reason as the guide and arbiter of human relationships." -Peikoff, Ominous Parallels -Has the West done a better job of balancing individualism and collectivism?-The future can look bleak, because the power structure does not seem to change at it's core-more of us need to try changing the chorus (What I can do? What I can focus on and control?)-most of the chorus will never change, but the shift doesn't need the masses, revolution is the minorityBumper Music:"Buster" moe."Closer To the Heart" Rush Instrumental Cover"Egg Man" Beastie BoysPlease Support School SucksOur Amazon Wish ListDonate With BitcoinOr Join the A/V ClubYour continued support keeps the show going and growing, which keeps us at the top of the options for education podcasts and leads to new people discovering this message.
