North Carolina Cop Kills Unarmed Man After Confusing Book for Gun, Daughter Says

Confusing a book for a gun, a North Carolina cop shot and killed an unarmed 43-year-old man Tuesday, according to his daughter, who posted a video of the shooting’s aftermath on Facebook.
But Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Keith Lamont Scott was armed and posed an “imminent deadly threat to the officers,” which is why he had to die.
They say they were in the area to serve an arrest warrant, which had nothing to do with Scott.
At this time, it does not appear as if the shooting was caught on video, but Scott’s daughter began live streaming on Facebook after the shootings where she can be heard yelling and insulting the officers for having killed her father, telling viewers that her father was sitting in a car reading a book waiting for his son to arrive from school on the bus.
The cop who killed has been identified as Brentley Vinson. Both Scott and Vinson are black.

According to the Charlotte Observer:

Police said they were searching for someone who had an outstanding warrant at The Village at College Downs complex on Old Concord Road when they saw a man with a gun leave a vehicle.
Police said they approached the man after he got back into the vehicle. The man got out again armed with a firearm “and posed an imminent deadly threat to the officers, who subsequently fired their weapon striking the subject,” police said in a statement.

Police said Scott was not the person they were seeking to arrest, whom they did not name nor did they apparently arrest.
The incident took place at 3:50 p.m. and as of this writing, 10:36 p.m., protesters remain gathered in the area, squaring off with police in riot gear.
Scott’s daughter said her father was tasered and shot four times, describing the shooting as follows:

“He sits in the shade, reads his book, does his studies, and waits on his kid to get off the bus,” the woman said. “He didn’t have no gun. He wasn’t messing with nobody. All they did, them ‘jumpout boys,’ them undercover detectives, they jumped out their truck, they said, ‘Hands up he got a gun, he got a gun, pow pow pow pow.’ That’s it.”

If there were several cops, but only one of them fired, which is the case here, then that indicates none of the other cops saw a gun in his hand.
However, police say they recovered a gun from the scene.
Below are two videos from the aftermath of the scene, including one that lasts an hour and has been disappearing from the internet, so we posted it and have yet to see it in its entirety.
There is also a video from Scott’s sister posted to Twitter.
Check out live stream videos here and here of what is taking place in the area as we speak.
