In the final week of 2017, Baltimore reported a total of 343 homicides. The murder rate has skyrocketed since members of Black Lives Matter began justifying violence as retaliation against law enforcement for the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died in the back of a police van in 2015.
