(ANTIWAR.COM) — With umpteen different factions with vested interests in the figures coming out different ways, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has become one of very few groups even trying to document the overall death toll of the Syrian War.
A couple of weeks ago the Russian Defence Ministry circulated reports that the leader of ISIS and its self-styled ‘Caliph’ – the man who previously called himself Ibrahim Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi – had been killed in a Russian air strike on a building in Raqqa where a number of top ISIS commanders where holding a meeting.
The Russians have since claimed that as well as Al-Baghdadi thirty other top ISIS commanders and 300 ISIS fighters were also killed in the air strike.

Exemplified by the hundred and some odd people they’ve killed in the last 48 hours, the US is struggling mightily with the narrative that they are taking extraordinary care to limit the number of civilian casualties in the air war in Syria, and are rapidly losing any pretense of a moral high ground.
