When they left prison on Sunday Ahed Tamimi and her mother Nariman received a hard-earned heros’ welcome from Palestinians and others opposed to Israel’s occupation and colonization of Palestinian lands seized in 1948 and enlarged by the Israeli army in 1967.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — After her release from an Israeli prison on Sunday, renowned Palestinian teen-activist Ahed Tamimi has been invited to South Africa to receive an award honoring the 17-year-old for her bravery and continued resistance to the Israeli military occupation of Palestine’s West Bank. The award was announced by Zwelivelile “Mandla” Mandela, chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council and the grandson of Nelson Mandela.

WASHINGTON – The release of a Palestinian child activist jailed by Israel’s military for shoving, slapping and kicking two heavily armed soldiers wearing protective gear is welcome news but serves as a reminder of Israel’s continued human rights violations against Palestinian children, Amnesty International said.
Seventeen-year-old Ahed Tamimi was set free today, 21 days short of completing an eight-month prison sentence following her wrongful imprisonment by Ofer military court in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
