“My guilt will never go away,” former Marine Matthew Hoh explained to me. “There is a significant portion of me that doesn’t believe it should be allowed to go away, that this pain is fair.”

Imagine mass surveillance as a line from 0 to 100. Zero is total anarchy and no control at all. One hundred is total control and surveillance of all the people, in all places, all the time.
So, where are we today? At 45? 60? 75?
Second, in which direction are we moving? Right you are, towards 100.
At which point will this become dangerous, for real? Should we say stop? Can we say stop? Is it too late to say stop? Discuss.
Prisoner dignity is an issue that is all too easy for bureaucrats and the unassuming public to push aside when there are more “pressing” issues at stake. For those more concerned with budget lines and keeping their jobs than the humanity of the alleged criminal class, incarcerated individuals become nothing more than a number. As a result, prisoner “needs” are limited only to what the state deems necessary to survival.
By Nauman Sadiq | OffGuardian | June 12, 2017 According to a recent report [1] by CBC Canada, al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, which was formerly known as al-Nusra Front and then Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (JFS) since July 2016, has been removed from the terror watch-lists of the US and Canada after it merged with fighters […]
Video footage has captured hundreds of Libyans celebrating the official release from prison of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the eldest son of Libyan revolutionary leader Muammar Gaddafi.
The celebrations from the town of Ghat, near the Algerian border and also not far from Niger has sparked questions as to the whereabouts of Saif al-Islam whose official location is not known at this time.
A video bemoaning the rise of automation and machinery went viral the other day. The video suffers from two fatal errors.
Robert Reich explains the theft plan buried within Trump's so-called "infrastructure" plan (h/t Jennifer Nix on Facebook)by Gaius PubliusAll you need to know about Donald Trump's theft of your dollars under the guise of an "infrastructure" plan is explained neatly in the video above. I call it "theft" because as Reich points out, it steals from the public twice — once with a massive tax giveaway and once more with a bunch of extracted tolls ("usage fees").
According to conventional wisdom, a rising population must result in poverty and famine. Yet, human beings can innovate their way out of scarcity by increasing the supply resources or by developing substitutes. Human ingenuity, in other words, is “the ultimate resource” that makes all other resources more plentiful, including water.
The Syrian Arab Army has captured villages in Al-Raqqa Governorate for the first time since ISIS forced Syrian troops to abandon the region to terrorists in 2013.
Syria’s elite Tiger Forces have been making remarkable progress in the race to Raqqa while the United States is also trying to get a piece of the largely symbolic self-proclaimed capital of the so-called Islamic State.
Just as they had done in their Iraqi stronghold of Mosul, ISIS fighters in Raqqa have been fleeing the city with Deir ez-Zor being their primary destination.

“In a democracy, as a matter of course, every effort is made to seize upon and create public opinion, which is, substantially, securing power.”
I am a most perturbed real truth seeker these days.... I have been putting up article after article here at this blog for years now trying my best to get even those with severe cognitive dissonance and those with almost zero attention spans to realize that all of this hype about man caused "Global Warming" is one of the worse frauds imaginable.... It has been a severe uphill battle against those who have been constantly calling ME a liar and harping the worse lie out there that the "Science of Global Warming being real is no longer in question"....

President Trump and congressional Republicans have a second chance to take a whack at the Obamacare piñata – and the beauty of it is that this time, Democrats may want to take a swing at it, too. “It” being the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB). As soon as the actuary for Medicare/Medicaid Services issues a report – already overdue for 2017 – that the "targets" have been exceeded, the IPAB automatically rises to life – in order to dispense death.
By Yves Engler | CounterPunch | June 12, 2017 It’s no wonder the Trudeau government has moved to ramp up military outlays. Even “left” commentators/politicians are calling for increased spending on Canada’s ecologically and socially destructive war machine. Recently Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan announced a more than 70 per cent increase in military spending over […]

Falling interest rates have huge power. My background is as an actuary, so I am very much aware of the great power of interest rates. But a lot of people are not aware of this power, including, I suspect, some of the people making today’s decisions to raise interest rates. Similar people want to sell securities now being held by[Read More...]

(MPN) The annual Global Peace Index, recently released for June 2017, has found that while the world is more peaceful now than last year, violence has increased significantly overall in the past decade.
Although the situation has improved in many countries, the ten lowest-ranking nations – known as the world’s “least peaceful” countries – have shown little change in recent years.
One of the joys of life is outsmarting the bureaucrats and regulators. They are constantly seeking to ruin our lives with demands that we comply. Free men and women must resist.
Speaking Friday at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference in Washington, Charles Krauthammer pointed out that Trump, stumbling around like a drunk, is making poorly thought out moves that are backfiring. Aleksey Navalny is a generally unpopular political agitator in Russia whose ambitions to achieve a position of power far outweigh any personal credibility let alone realistic plans for government.
One of the many reasons he remains deeply unpopular in Russia is because he has tried to import the most vile style of European far-right nationalism to a country that has a much broader and deeper patriotic definition of nation than the kinds of ethno-nationalism that have plagued Europe for centuries.
