THE English Football Association is currently investigating an incident during a match in which a French soccer player, Nicolas Anelka, performed an arm gesture known as the “quenelle”. Mr Anelka made the sign in celebration after scoring a goal for his English club, West Bromwich Albion, on December 28th. It prompted an outcry in France, where the sports minister called it “a shocking provocation”. Mr Anelka apologised. What exactly is the quenelle?
The word in French refers originally to a long oval-shaped fish or meat dumpling from the Lyon region. It was adopted by Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, a controversial French stand-up comedian, who has been convicted several times of inciting racial hatred and hate speech, and has many fines outstanding for these offences.
Perhaps Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, has been convicted? But, if man's law is foolish, what matters the convictions? As I have said repeatedly, a tyrannical state can make all manner of laws to turn all kinds of people into criminals. But, have they really committed any true crime under Natural Law. In 2009 he led an “anti-Zionist” (keeping in mind that Zionism is a political movement that has adherents of many persuasions) list for elections to the European Parliament. In launching his election campaign, he declared that he wanted to “put a quenelle up the backsides of Zionists”. So, it is basically an 'up yours' gesture A nearly universal gesture. However-
To invent a pretext for destroying Dieudonné, the leading Jewish organizations CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France, the French AIPAC) and LICRA (Ligue internationale contre le racisme et l’antisémitisme, which enjoys special privileges under French law) have come up with a fantasy to brand Dieudonné and his followers as “Nazis”.

Mr Anelka said on his Twitter feed after the football-match incident that he had meant it as an “anti-system” signal, in support of his friend, Dieudonné. The comedian was facing a ban on his comedy shows in France after the Socialist interior minister, Manuel Valls, said that they could be a threat to public order. Other public figures who have been photographed performing the quenelle, such as Tony Parker, a basketball player, say that they had no idea that it had anti-Semitic connotations.
The French government, however, is taking a tough line, in keeping with the country’s laws on hate speech. “The quenelle is a Nazi gesture that is clearly anti-Semitic,” Valérie Fourneyron, the sports minister, told French radio. “Freedom of expression is sacred,” said Mr Valls, “but racism and anti-Semitism are crimes.”

France has strict laws against both hate speech and Holocaust denial; it also bans the wearing of uniforms or emblems resembling those responsible for “crimes against humanity”.
So does that mean all military uniforms?
On January 6th the government told prefects in all departments to close Dieudonné’s shows if and where they threatened public order. The following day the first leg of his tour, due to open in the western city of Nantes on January 9th, was banned; other towns have said that they will follow suit. Even if the shows are cancelled, though, the publicity from all this may yet benefit Dieudonné: it turns out that the comedian’s production company has registered the quenelle, in France, as a trademark.

It is even not possible to trademark quenelle because it is an ordinary word. It's as if you tried to register potato, banana or dumpling. So once more, the media spreading lies, hwo original.
