The G20 represents about 80% of the world’s agricultural trade. At the recent summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, affirmed their commitment to free and open trade, a rules based system, and a multilateral order, and confirmed the joint opposition to unnecessary tariffs, trade wars, and unilateral protectionism. It even praised the WTO, which Trump has a major issue with. Essentially, it was a meeting of countries to agree that they don’t agree with Trump’s manner of doing business.

US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker announced that they have reached an understanding on lowering barriers between the two sides.
During his visit to the White House, Juncker appeared to have made several concessions to POTUS Trump in an effort to avoid a trade war…such concession include buying more US soybeans and purchasing expensive, American LNG.
Trump was firm in his stance on trade with the EU, insisting on reciprocal trade relations between the two blocks.

The US federal government has unveiled a new plan to subsidize American farmers whose business plans just don’t factor current market conditions. The federal handouts are expressed as being in the multiple billions in a plan that is being implemented not in the case of some natural disaster, but in the interest of remunerating farmers for changes in the demand for their products. But farmers are saying that they don’t want a bailout, but rather that they are more interested in extensive market stability.

A week after resorting to the World Trade Organization in its complaint against US tariffs on Russian steel and aluminum, Moscow has raised its duties from 25 to 40 per cent on some US imports.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, Economic Development Minister Maksim Oreshkin said the rise was to compensate for more than $500 million loss in exports expected due to the US tariffs.

As the Trump administration ramps up its trade war with its allies and trade partners, some of them seem to be reluctant to admit this new reality, refusing the formation of an alliance to combat Trump’s economic warfare at the World Trade Organization (WTO). China has proposed a sort of alliance with the EU to oppose Trump’s tariffs measures before the WTO, whereas the EU is of the opinion that this is not a necessary step, hoping that the situation can still be defused through strategic diplomacy.

GENEVA — President Donald Trump’s threat to the World Trade Organization (WTO) that a failure to treat the U.S. “properly” will mean “we will be doing something” has sent shockwaves rippling through Western capitals who fear that the “America First” agenda is increasingly leading to bruising fights with the other powers who comprise the globalized, neoliberal trade system.

US trade representative Robert Lighthizer is presenting Trump’s trade tariffs case as one that is uniquely justified, while the retaliatory measures of America’s trade partners are altogether illicit. America’s interpretation of WTO rules is that as long as America levies tariffs as a security measure, that they’re perfectly legitimate, whereas retaliatory countermeasures are considered unnecessary measures aimed at doing harm to another nation’s economy.

Back in March, US President Donald J. Trump decided to levy tariffs on those of its trade partners who were ‘treating us unfairly’. Those tariffs included a 10% tariff on imported aluminum and 25% on steel imports, perceiving those of the entire globe.
But some countries, including the EU, Canada, Mexico, and others, managed to secure a brief exception to those measures, as well as harsh rhetoric from Trump about the EU’s nature being that of ripping America off, which was extended for May.
