The world looks on America as something very different than it really is. Much of what is told of America, both good and bad, is simply as Donald Trump says, “fake news.” Americans themselves know little about America. Few travel within their own country. America, you see, if 50 little countries, some like California or Florida or Texas, a virtual “Europe” in themselves, with regions unidentifiable as part of anything at all.
The American political circus is trembling violently again, in a ring where vultures of every stripe have been caught in a chokehold. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is not thinking of finding a dignified solution anymore – he is simply trying to find a way out of a very difficult situation. Like the mythical Sisyphus, Mueller makes a tremendous effort but fails to move apart all the political vultures, who are equally weary of all the bickering which has made a circus out of the United States.
President Trump first caused a sensation by declaring that the Republican Party would soon be known as the party of health care, cancelling the less than perfect plan that Obama managed to set up. A few days later he announced that his ‘better’ plan, would probably not be announced until after the 2020 presidential election: talk about holding Americans hostage!

The Mueller investigation which ended recently with a “whimper,” in fact never existed at all nor should it have. As a subject of that investigation, I got a first-hand look. The US Food and Drug Administration has just lifted an earlier ban on commercialization of the first genetically modified food, Salmon. This is the first time ever permission to sell GMO animals for human consumption in the US has been allowed. It should raise alarm bells not only in the USA.
After spending most of my adult life in various Eastern and Western European countries, I returned to the US just before the turn of the twenty-first century. I had spent several periods here in previous decades, always wondering why Americans were the only highly developed people who were told nothing about the democratic socialism that reigned across the Atlantic — and in most other parts of the world. I continued to wait, but the word socialism continued to be absent from the media.
