College Teaching on the Periphery

Throughout 27 years of teaching classes in Cross-cultural Psychology, Critical Thinking, Brainwashing, Propaganda and Rhetoric and Social Psychology at universities and community colleges, I’ve been only dimly aware of how the decline of capitalism and its increasing instability has affected my teaching experience. Contrary to the way college teaching is often presented in liberal la la land – as being a special field in which teachers and students care about each other – these “gigs” are, in most ways, no different than other kinds of alienated work.

Melissa Click Claimed She was in Fear for Her Life, Thinking Student Journalist had Gun, Which is Why She Assaulted Him

Taking a page from law enforcement, University of Missouri professor Melissa Click told investigators she was in fear for her life when she assaulted a student journalist, calling for some “muscle” to have him removed because she was under the impression that he was packing a gun and could have pulled it out on her.
She also claimed she found Mark Schierbecker “suspicious” because his camera was too small.

University of Missouri Media Professor Ridiculed for Hypocritical Stance on First Amendment (Updated II)

A mass media professor from one of the country’s most respected journalism schools delivered an embarrassing blow to the school’s reputation after threatening to have a journalist removed by force from a campus encampment where protesters had set up tents during an ongoing protest that led to the resignation of two top university officials Monday.
Talk about irony and hypocrisy at its finest.

Illinois Student Sues Campus Police Over Attack for Smoking Outside Caught on Video

College of DuPage student Jaclyn Pazera was on campus to hit the books and learn; but in a catastrophic turn of events, she was instead booked into the county jail on charges of trespassing, obstructing and resisting.
Now, she has filed a lawsuit against the Illinois college’s campus police, citing excessive force and civil rights violations. The campus police fall under the jurisdiction of the college. Reports show that Pazera’s wrists and shoulders were injured during her arrest.
