TV Watch: Two excellent things about CBS's choice of Stephen Colbert to succeed David Letterman

Rush asks over and over, do we really care what he thinks about it? Great point, Rush! Who in his right mind could possibly care? Except for the fact that you've got still got a lot of people listening to you who aren't in their right mind.by KenIt really seems as if some note should be taken of the news that Stephen Colbert has been named to succeed David Letterman as host of CBS's Late Show -- at some date to be determined next year after Dave finally packs it in.Two things occur to me -- both good, let me hasten to say. I'm certainly not claiming that they're profound.

TV Watch: " 'Mad Men' in Less Than 2 Minutes: Don Draper Edition"

by KenAt last we have a date: April 13. That's when the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuts on AMC. I've got so much stuff to watch now that it will require even more juggling than I've been doing lately, but I had already taken the precaution of ordering Blu-rays of Seasons 4 and 5 to go with my U.K. DVD set of Seasons 1 and 2 and the U.S. DVDs of Season 3. I guess when it comes time I'll have to bite the bullet and pay the stiff current asking prices for Season 6.Or . . .

TV Watch: Searching for bright spots in this cataclysmically awful TV season

Even though, or perhsps because, the comic-book store has descended into ghostly solitude, Stuart (Kevin Sussman) has amply rewarded the increased attention of The Big Bang Theory's producers -- and the other "supporting" characters are coming up aces too.by KenI haven't been doing much "TV Watch"-ing lately, which might be because I haven't been doing much TV watching, but anyone who knows me knows that that's a laugh.

TV Watch: Okay, "Downton Abbey" deprivees, tonight's the big night* -- and wait, there's more!

*Of course, don't forget to check your local listings.Tough Justice with Michelle Dockery from Michelle Dockery "She's not Lady Mary anymore."by KenNoah passed this on to me, and at first I assumed it was real -- yet another case of a gosh-darned Brit taking away American j-o-b-s. It turns out to be better than real (kind of scary-real, actually).

Blu-ray Watch: Pick a James Bond film, any James Bond film

Luscious Luciana Paluzzi, seen here as the evil Fiona with Sean Connery as James Bond, was honored that Thunderball director Terence Young schlepped from Rome to give her away at her second wedding.by KenAnd the answer is: Thunderball (1965). Okay, there are 22 other Bond films you could have picked. I'm just telling you that the answer is Thunderball. You probably saw that Amazon Gold Box offer last week: all 23 Bond films on Blu-ray for $100.

TV Watch (among other things): It's been a quiet Thanksgiving Day here in the Big Apple

With all three DVD players loaded for action, one of today's TV Watch objects was Michael Palin's most recent travel series, New Europe, his look at the eastern part of the continent, previously so little known to him, and the location of the largest amount of change on the continent in recent decades.by KenIt's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon . . . no, wait, that's that other guy's franchise.
