TV Watch: AMC's "Better Call Saul" premiere is now scheduled as a two-night affair, February 8-9

by KenDon't get too excited -- there's not much to it, but come on, it's been two full weeks since we passed on news of the Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul. I realize we're being manipulated shamelessly by the AMC publicity machine, dribbling out snitches 'n' snatches of not much, but what're ya gonna do?

TV Watch: "Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles" completes a strong season, with an emotional farewell to Josh Flagg's beloved grandmother

Edith Flagg (1919-2014)"I've always known that one day I would walk through the doors of that penthouse, and she would no longer be there anymore."-- Josh Flagg, on returning to Grandma Edith's apartment,in the Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles season finaleby KenHere again is why I avoid burning up the Intertubes for TV news that I don't need to know until I need to know it.

TV Watch: Come on, February -- "Better Call Saul" is getting closer! (And Mike Ehrmantraut lives!)

Updated, with the actual clip embeddedLatest tidings from the Better Call Saul set in Albuquerqueby KenBe still, my heart! I know the above picture is crap [UPDATE: all fixed! see the explanation below -- Ed.], but yes, that really is our very own Saul Goodman -- or rather, I gather, some yokel named Jimmy McGill. And Better Call Saul is apparently on target for a February rollout. And the 2:27 tease is authentically worth the trouble for anyone who's looking forward to the series as much as I am.

TV Watch: "Town to town, up and down the dial" -- welcome back, "WKRP in Cincinnati"!

It looks like hell in this format, stretched and squashed into that tiny screen, and the voices sound kind of peculiar too -- has the pitch somehow dropped? Still, I think this may be my favorite WKRP episode: "Baby, It's Cold Inside" (Season 3, Episode 8). On this frigid, heatless morning, the station staff, which I describe below as "one of the great ensemble casts in TV history," is thrown into confusion by the unexpected early-morning appearance of Mrs. Carlson (Carol Bruce), media-mogul mother of station manager Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson (Gordon Jump). Under the influence of what Dr.

What is there not to hate about Halloween?

About a Boy's Fiona (Minnie Driver), Marcus(Benjamin Stockham), and Will (David Walton)by KenYou're probably thinking this is going to be one of those spoilsport anti-Halloween diatribes. And it's true that when a friend mentioned on the phone this afternoon that he might be venturing out this evening for the parade (meaning, of course, the world-famous Greenwich Village Halloween Parade), I didn't know what to say.

TV Watch: More on how long should a TV season be -- British-style

Annie and Martin Bryce (Penelope Wilton, Richard Briers) with unflappable neighbor Paul Ryland (Peter Egan) in Ever Decreasing Circles (1985-89)by KenIn my post earlier this evening, I stumbled into the bottomless-pit question of how long a TV show's "season" should be. Maybe 39, as in the good old days of American TV?

TV Watch: Further thoughts on the short final season of "Parenthood" -- and the question of how long a TV season should be

A promo for last week's episode (No. 5 of Season 6) of Parenthoodby KenAlmost exactly a month ago I voiced mixed feelings about the launch of Parenthood's sixth and final season, in a 13-episode format. The good feelings had an obvious cause: the return of a show I'd joined well into its run but come to value a lot. And the not-so-good feelings had equally obvious causes: the "final season" part, and the "13-episode format" part.

TV Watch: With "Parenthood" launching its (abbreviated) final season, any chance of cutting back on the "buddy"s?

So this would be the school that Kristina Braverman (Monica Potter) dreamed up last season. Interesting to see all these Bravermans-by-marriage gathered onsite -- in addition to Kristina, Joel (Sam Jaeger), the estranged husband of Julia B (Erika Christensen), the only born Braverman in sight, and of course family matriarch Camille (Bonnie Bedelia). Season 6 launches tonight.by KenI guess they're going to have to get that school up and running, or failing, pretty quick, with Parenthood returning tonight for a mere-13-episode sixth and final season.

TV Watch (sick-day edition): Binge-watching Season 3 of TNT's "Dallas"

The 2012-14 (and beyond) Ewings: Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), Bobby (Patrick Duffy), John Ross (Josh Henderson), and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe)"You selfish bastard! Lying and cheating were the only two things you were good at, and now you've failed at them too!"-- Pamela Barnes Ewing, after slapping terminallyestranged husband John Ross, in "Victims of Love," Episode 12 of Season 3 of Dallas (2012)by KenI love that line, even if I'm not sure Julie Gonzalo has read it quite right.
