(ANTIWAR.COM) Two US soldiers were killed yesterday just outside of the major Afghan city of Kandahar, when a suicide bomber attacked the NATO convoy they were traveling in. NATO confirmed “casualties,” but did not specify if there were any wounded on top of the two slain.
(ANTIWAR.COM) After months of the Pentagon failing to sell a concrete plan of military escalation in Afghanistan to the White House, officials now say that the administration is considering getting back on track with a drawdown, that would lead to a full pullout from the country after 16 years.
(ANTIWAR.COM) — The Pentagon is indicating that they are about to announce a new deployment of US ground troops into Afghanistan, though they offered no specifics on the exact timing of the announcement, nor the specific size of the deployment.
(ANTIWAR.COM) — In an interview with the Fayetteville Observer, Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend talked about a planned troop rotation coming up in September, saying he hoped the fighting over the city of Mosul would be over by then, but that despite predictions of an end to the ISIS war, US troops should stay.
(ANTIWAR.COM) — Trump Administration officials familiar with the decision-making process say that the Pentagon will be sending “almost 4,000” more US ground troops into Afghanistan soon, with the official announcement on the deployment likely to come as early as next week.

(ANTIWAR.COM) While publicly US strategy in the Afghan War has been based around the conceit that the conflict is in a “stalemate,” despite mounting losses by the Afghan government. Advisers have offered a classified assessment on the conflict recently, however, conceding that the Ghani government’s survival is at risk, and that the war is being “slowly” lost.
(ANTIWAR.COM) In among the Pentagon plans of sending 3,000 to 5,000 more US ground troops into Afghanistan, they are also looking at getting future unilateral control over US troop levels in the country. Even that isn’t the end of it, as reports yesterday have them redefining the US “advisory” mission to put the troops closer to the front lines.
