UK Plan to Tackle Childhood Obesity Deemed ‘Weak’

The United Kingdom, not unlike the United States, is striving to tackle the rising issue of childhood obesity. In order to do so, the government has issued a plan of action that both cuts down the amount of sugar allowed in food and places a hefty tax on sweet drinks. The tax would help fund exercise- and other healthy living-related initiatives. Though while many find this to be a good start, some critics are striking down on the upcoming changes.

McDonald’s Makes Positive Food Changes Due to Demand for Healthy Food

McDonald’s has been in the news a lot this month, thanks to big changes the fast-food company is making to several of its menu offerings.
The company began making these changes more than a year ago, when it replaced margarine with real butter in its Egg McMuffins, and added kale and spinach to the iceberg lettuce in its salads. (Those kale salads wound up being higher in calories than McDonald’s famous Big Macs, though.) [1]

The council held an official meeting on Tuesday where members discussed the bill, which would require warning labels on not just sugary beverages, but also advertisements, restaurant menus, and at the point of sale where sugary products are sold.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz And The Fajnul Sugar Empire Are So Tied Together As To Be Indistinguishable

As of the March 31 FEC reporting deadline Debbie Wasserman Schultz had already spent $1,300,451 to retain her south Florida congressional seat. Ensconced in a deep blue district whose original very gerrymandered boundaries she drew herself when she was in the state Senate, she's never had an electoral challenge and doesn't know how to run a modern campaign.

Is a Soda Tax the Solution to Reducing Sugar-Consumption Worldwide?

Health experts in Australia say that the country should follow the UK in introducing a tax on sugary soft drinks. While politicians such as Australia’s Trade Minister say they are not “fans” of the tax, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has told the Australian government to “pull its finger out,” and describing the UK’s plans as “bold and brave.”
