In 1992, Francis Fukuyama published a book called The End of History and The Last Man. Fukuyama’s premise was that having ‘won’ the Cold War, American style liberal democracy and capitalism would be the perpetual and constant force guiding the world forever more. Alternative styles of geo-politics, government and economics were a thing of the past; a kind of erroneous trial process that had at long last reached the ‘correct’ conclusion.

If one wants to know why the modern Russian state and the Russian people are so averse to war, just take a look and the following charts.

Long before Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria were attacked by the US Empire and its allies, these countries had something very important in common: They all had secular progressive nationalist sovereign governments with long established ties with the former Soviet Union, which is one of the reasons why the US has long planned to destroy them and turn them into client states.

I, along with others have been wondering just how the events in Syria from 2011 onwards might have unraveled had the internet not been as advanced as it has been in the last six years.
When the US and the UK invaded Iraq in 2003, those Iraqis who knew of the internet saw it as an exotic, alien entity. Mobile phones were scarce, and even satellite television was not permitted prior to 2003 while email services were mostly limited to government officials.

Fascism is the wicked ideology that brought the world closer to collapse than any other in modern history. The blood of nearly 30 million Soviet soldiers is a testament to this harrowing struggle. The decades of peace that ensued in Europe and the Soviet Union after the 9th of May 1945, stands as a vindication of the anti-fascist post-war policies instigated by the USSR.
Post-Soviet Europe has seen the frightening trend of a re-emergence of fascism, something the Soviet government warned its western counterparts about as early as 1945.

The Balkans is now closer to the verge of a multi-front war that it has been since the blood-soaked 1990s.

In 1917 the young Soviet state declared the 8th of March a public holiday celebrating the contribution of women to society. In 1965 it became a non-working day for all Soviet citizens.
It remains a special day in Russia when women are given flowers, read poems and where women receive favours from boys and men. Incidentally, the 23rd of February is Defender of the Fatherland Day, informally known as Men’s Day. On this day Russian women honour the sacrifices men have made over the centuries to keep Russia sovereign and peaceful.
