Sheriff Don Barnes rejected Superior Court Judge Peter Wilson's order to release of 1,858 dangerous inmates over concerns about spreading Covid-19. Sheriff Barnes said that low level offenders have already been released and what remains are dangerous criminals that include murderers and child molesters.
San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura, & Riverside County Sheriffs will not enforce the curfew order. The Los Angeles Sheriff will take a voluntary compliance approach, will not make any arrests related to order. Several of the sheriffs are refusing to enforce the curfew, questioning the constitutionality of the edict.
Sheriff Daniels warned that if there aren't enough officers to handle an influx of protesters, he will make the gun owners of Clay County “special deputies” in order to quell domestic terrorist and insurrectionist activity. A number of sheriffs around the state, including those from Spokane, Chelan, Stevens, Douglas, Benton, Adams, and Lewis counties, have refused to enforce the law because, in their view, it violates the Second Amendment. In response, threats to kill these sheriffs and all Republicans were posted on Facebook.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions addressed a meeting of the National Sheriff’s Association on February 12 in Washington. As the nation’s chief law enforcer, Sessions was “among friends” and such an appearance should have been uneventful. What could possibly go wrong? Well … it appears that the Attorney General may have improvised a bit in his speech, straying away from the prepared remarks he was supposed to have given.
