It's all over, suckersI've been in a state of denial since November 9 but Trump's appointment of Betsy DeVos yesterday snapped me right out of it. And no matter how many times the clueless shills on Morning Joe try to assure everyone that Trump won't be governing the way he ran his vile campaign and that everything is back to normal and he'll have a fine cabinet, it just ain't so.
Every 4 years the Republican Party establishment declares Michigan is in play. Except it never is. George W. Bush lost the state both times-- with 46.1% in 2000 and four years later, as an incumbent, with 47.8%. In 2008 McCain lost with 41% and then in 2012, hometown hero, Mitt Romney, crashed and burned with 44.7%. But Trump has boasted he would turn around the GOP's 3 decade long losing streak.
Ken, Gaius, Noah and I have, over the years, written a good number of posts about coal baron/murderer Donald Blankenship, mostly asking why he isn't in prison or when will he be in prison. It's taken a long, long time but yesterday he was finally sentenced to a year in prison-- but not for murder. He's too rich for that.
You don't hear Snyder's name mentioned much any more as a plausible running mate for any like-minded Republicans-- he'd be perfect for Kasich-- but Michigan Governor Rick Snyder still isn't in prison or, as far as I know, even charged with a crime. And you know what that means: when they get away with it and there's no accountability, it grants permission for Republicans to just keep on poisoning the children of the poor and powerless.
