The Politics Behind Raising The Minimum Wage

As you probably noticed, progressives have been up in arms because Steve Israel and the DCCC have recruited Jennifer Garrison, "the Sarah Palin of Ohio," to run for Congress… as a Democrat. Most of the complaints have come from women's groups over Garrison's fanatic anti-Choice history and from LGBT groups because of her similarly fanatic history as an anti-gay crusader. Having been in the state legislature she has a long and sordid record on these, as well as environmental and ethical issues.

McConnell Accuses DeMint's Right Wing Super PAC Of Illegal Coordination With The Democrats

That's the ad the Senate Conservatives Fund is spending tens of thousands of dollars running all over Kentucky television a year out from the Republican primary pitting Mitch McConnell against Tea Party activist Matt Bevin. And McConnell is furious-- and flipping out. In yesterday's Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan caught his anger at the Tea Party idiots pretty well.

Who Thinks It's A Coincidence That The NRCC Doesn't Run Anyone Against Steve Israel?

There are only 9 congressional districts with PVIs of zero. They are neither R+1 nor D+1. They are true 50/50 swing districts. Every single one of them is fiercely contested every election cycle… except one. Obama won all these districts in 2008 and, with one exception (IL-13), he won all of them last year. The 9 districts have 3 GOP incumbents and 6 Democratic incumbents. The DCCC has targeted the 3 Republicans and the NRCC has targeted 5 of the 6 Democrats.

Would It Be More Appropriate To Introduce Don Yelton As "Mr. Republican" Or "Mr. Conservative?"

Thursday Rachel Maddow focussed on the Daily Show to make the same point Alan Grayson made when he pointed out that teabaggers are basically a modern-day version of the KKK. I wonder if Claire McCaskill, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Joe Crowley will condemn Rachel the way they condemned Grayson. In any case, you need to watch this segment.

Boehner Says There Aren't Enough Republicans To Pass A Clean CR And Dems Say There Are. Who's Right?

Democrats, from President Obama (who has no relation with House Republicans and doesn't know much more about it than any of us do) to Nancy Pelosi, say there are enough Republicans and Democrats-- 217-- to pass a clean CR. Long Island Republican Peter King agrees. Let's say that the 5 right-wing Democrats who refused to sign Pelosi's letter to Boehner calling for a clean CR-- John Barrow (New Dem-GA), Mike McIntyre (New Dem-NC), Jim Cooper (New Dem-TN), Jim Matheson (Blue Dog-UT) and Ron Kind (New Dem-WI)-- can be persuaded to vote for it, a reasonable, though not iron-clad assumption.
