There's still hope for the Democratic PartyMost states have already picked their congressional candidates for November and July is a time-out for primaries BUT there are still 19 states with congressional primaries coming up in August and September. And some of them are extremely important. In only one instance-- Delaware-- is it still possible to file to run. The state, which votes on September 13 has a filing deadline next week-- July 12.

Wednesday, everyone I know was either celebrating Zephyr Teachout;s landslide victory in NY-19 or trying to figure what went wrong in NY-24, where Eric Kingson came in second of three Democratic primary candidates-- or both. Of course, everyone was excited to see Bernie will a clear victory in Oregon Tuesday. He beat Hillary 320,746 (56.0%) to 251,739 (44.0%). The Berniecrat running in the 5th district, Dave McTeague, however didn't fare all that well in his race against the odious chief Blue Dog Kurt Schrader. Schrader outspent McTeague $442,433 to $30,629 and Schrader beat him 62,046 (72.9%) to 23,107 (27.1%).

Renee Ellmers is probably wishing all she had to face this election cycle was last cycle's opponent, gay singling star and American Idol fave, Clay Aiken. She beat him 122,128 (59%) to 85,479 (41%). After the district was redrawn by court order it's still safely Republican but now she's in a battle royale with fellow Republicans George Holding (who was redistricted out of a safe seat) and big name teabagger Greg Brannon who ran for the U.S. Senate in 2014 and has major name recognition. The congressional primary was postponed until June 7 because of the new boundaries.

Bill Ostrander's e-mail sign-off is "Elections must depend upon the Voters, not the Funders." You get an idea where he stands right away. And lot of independent-minded voters are starting to question the Establishment case for the "inevitability" of Salud Carbajal, the anointed candidate of the DCCC.

Conventional wisdom, which is getting a really bad name, predicted that Hillary would easily beat Bernie in Wisconsin (and he might as well quit the race, a notion constantly harped on by the establishment media, especially NBC). They cited an Emerson poll conducted March 20-22 of likely Democratic primary voters. That poll had Hillary up over Bernie 50 to 44%.

Many concerned Californians felt very let down when the establishment shills inside the California Democratic Party-- the Gavin Newsom wing basically-- backed away from holding reactionary New Dem Ami Bera accountable at the recent state convention by ending the short-lived withholding on the Democratic Party endorsement.

Primaries against entrenched incumbents are not just the most difficult to win, they are the most thankless and painful to run.
