Senate Republicans Block Sanders-Backed ‘Trump Proposal’ On Rx Drugs

Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a Bernie Sanders-backed amendment aimed at lowering prescription drug prices and allowing for the import of low-cost medicines from other countries.

Health Officials Demand Black Box Warnings on Opioid Painkillers

Public health directors across the United States are pressuring the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to put a “black box” warning, the agency’s strongest warning, on prescription painkillers and sedatives. [1]
The demand, which comes in the form of a petition, comes as cities and states grapple with a growing epidemic of painkiller abuse.
The officials write in the petition submitted Monday:

Pill-Pushing Doctor Arrested After 36 Patients Die

A Jonesboro, Georgia psychiatrist is being called “Dr. Death” after 36 of his patients died, 12 of them from prescription drug overdoses.
Dr. Narenda Nagareddy was recently arrested and his office was raided by nearly 40 DEA agents. Nagareddy is accused of violating Georgia’s Controlled Substance Act, essentially running a “pill mill.”

Major Drug Distributors Flooded West Virginia with Millions of Pain Pills

One of the nation’s largest pharmaceutical drug wholesalers is under fire from West Virginia’s attorney general, Patrick Morrisey.
On Friday, Morrisey announced a lawsuit against San Francisco-based McKesson Corporation alleging the company violated state consumer protection laws and the Uniform Controlled Substances Act by flooding West Virginia with tens of millions of prescription pills.
