George Soros Argues for Censorship of Social Media to Fight Populism

George Soros is demanding that the European Union regulate social media because voters’ minds are being controlled and "manipulated" as populism is gaining favor in Europe and the US. He warned that an alliance between big tech companies and regulators in the US could lead to totalitarian control. NEW YORK (Interview) —Neoliberal capitalism has failed the vast majority of Americans. It has increased inequality, fostered austerity, destroyed the environment and fomented wars.
Reactionary right-wing politics have largely succeeded in filling this ideological vacuum, embodied by the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America.

UN Under Siege: Geopolitics in the Time of Trump

[Prefatory Note: This post is a modified and enlarged version of a talk I gave in Geneva a week ago. The audience was a blend of students of all ages from around the world, with almost none from Europe and North America, and several NGO representatives with lots of UN experience.]
