Dijon Kizzee, a black man who was stopped for a bicycle code violation, dropped the bike and fled, and then punched an officer in a scuffle. Sheriffs say that a semi-automatic handgun fell from Kizzee's clothing and when he made a move to retrieve the firearm, the sheriff's deputies opened fire and killed Kizzee.

Video shows that Jacob Blake struggled with officers before the shooting and resisted arrest. Authorities are not revealing whether Blake was armed. Hundreds of rioters tore up businesses and started fires.

A shotgun was fired into his home after a group of 50 to 60 people gathered there to protest against the officer because he had fatally shot three people over five years in service.

Police Chief James Craig says his city kept the peace because they decided at the beginning that “We weren’t giving up ground to the radicals.” He credited the residents of the city, who he said stood with the police. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has supported the city’s police department.
