Most people are aware that fast-food has no redeeming qualities, but never give a second thought to the paper their burgers come wrapped in. But even fast-food packaging can make you sick, as pointed out by research published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters. This is yet another example of how fast-food wrappers contain dangerous chemicals – called fluorinated chemicals. [1]
A new study by researchers at Harvard University shows that the water supplies of nearly 6 million Americans are tainted with unsafe levels of polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFASs – a class of industrial chemicals linked to potentially serious health problems. [1]
PFASs have been used for decades in a wide variety of industrial and commercial products, including non-stick coatings on pans, food wrappers, water-repellent clothing, and firefighting foam.
DuPont has been dumping the chemical, C8 (Perfluorooctanoic Acid), into the water supply near its facility in West Virginia for decades, igniting too many lawsuits to count. Carla Bartlett of Ohio is the first in over 3,500 lawsuits against the company to actually win. DuPont has known of the chemical’s toxicity since the 1950’s, but continued to manufacturer it.
