What do young progressives believe? In the popular vernacular, they are described as “liberals” or “leftists,” but these familiar labels obscure what is novel about the ideology many young activists are trying to advance in our universities, cultural institutions, media outlets, and even corporations. On issues of race, diversity, gender, and sexual expression these activists have made a clean break with their liberal forebearers.

How do you define ‘racism’? Is slavery a legacy of the historic Empires? Has wokeness become the new secular religion for this generation of youth? One thing is certain: wokeness, rabid identity politics are now creating a toxic culture of division. Whose got it right, and whose got it wrong?

Could the current antisocial climate of political intolerance in the West lead to future violence, or even civil war? Historian Neil Oliver warns of this possibility.
