Zika can not defeat Olympics in Brazil: Rousseff

IOC President Thomas Bach said Friday that no countries intend to pull out of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro over concerns of Zika [Xinhua]Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Saturday vowed her country would host a successful Olympic Games this year despite the outbreak of the Zika virus. Rousseff has enlisted the support of the World Health Organisation.
“We are aware of one thing. There will be Olympic Games and we are focused on that goal,” said Rousseff during a speech in Rio de Janeiro, where the state is waging war against the virus.

Refusing to Host the Olympics

The merchants of the Olympic brand are running out of ideas.  For decades, the deception of common humanity and the broader interests of building peace before the terror of war supposedly immunised the Olympics from slander and critique.  Olympism was a high-ended spectrum of nobility, though it reeked of the body beautiful and a state sponsored cult of blood.

Brazil: Workers Struggle Trumps Sports Spectacle

For decades social critics have bemoaned the influence of sports and entertainment spectacles in ‘distracting’ workers from struggling for their class interests. According to these analysts, ‘class consciousness’ was replaced by ‘mass’ consciousness. They argued that atomized individuals, manipulated by the mass media, were converted into passive consumers who identified with millionaire sports heroes, soap opera protagonists and film celebrities.
