North Carolina’s GOP Lawmakers Fail To Revive ‘Discriminatory’ Voter-ID Law

North Carolina’s warring lawmakers failed Monday to have the U.S. Supreme Court take up a battle over a voter-identification law struck down as discriminatory.
One of the dozens of cases denied certiorari this morning by the high court, the dispute at issue stems from infighting within the state about the future of the law.

Matt Coffay, a farmer who founded the Asheville chapter of Our Revolution, is running for Congress... and he's about as good a candidate as the Democratic Party is going to find-- not just in North Carolina, but anywhere in the country. His district, though, is a tough one. The Republicans in the North Carolina legislature carefully cut most of Asheville out of the 11th congressional district to create what they thought would be a "safe" Republican seat. It was won in 2012 by right-wing extremist Mark Meadows, one of the founding members of the Freedom Caucus, which he now chairs.

“Is your shit on? Cut it off,” said a North Carolina cop after he and several other cops roughed up a man.
Body cam footage released this week shows Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers punching and elbowing James Yarborough during an arrest while Yarborough was on the ground.
One of the officers then puts a gun to Yarborough’s head and says, “I will kill you.”
Thankfully, that officer did not make good on his promise, but he later noted in his report that he feared for his life because Yarborough was reaching for his waist.

The North Carolina cop who became a viral sensation after telling an Uber driver that it was illegal to record him under a new law – only to learn the driver was also a lawyer – was demoted in rank and pay.
Wilmington Police Sergeant Kenneth Becker is now a corporal whose hourly salary was reduced by $1.38, according to the News and Observer.
