Opinion — Many well-meaning people wonder whether the left is pro-Islamic. The left has been a vociferous critic of Middle Eastern wars, American hegemony, settler colonialism, and social conservatism that endorses narrow nationalism and overbudgeted militaries. Though skeptical of religion, in theory, the left seems much more tolerant of Islam than it has been of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, or any other religion.
Germany: Federal crime reports and statistics attributed 93% of anti-Semitic offenses in the first half of 2017 to right-wing extremists. However, these numbers are fictional, because the right is blamed by default when the perpetrator is unknown. When Jews were polled, 8% said relatives or acquaintances had been the target of physical attacks over the past year. Another 36% were abused or insulted. Furthermore, 81% of the attacks and 62% of the insults came from Muslims.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Edward Archer, a Muslim, ambushed and shot a cop in the arm. After he was apprehended, he said that he did it in the name of Islam and that he is loyal to ISIS. That made no difference to Democrat Mayor Jim Kenney who said the shooting had nothing to do with Islam. Then he said that, In America, Muslims are forced to defend themselves against hatred. [...]
The Northumbria police are tracking down social media users who made "offensive" and potentially "criminal posts" about the race and religion of grooming gangs following the Operation Shelter scandal, in which young white British girls were groomed, sexually abused, and trafficked by mostly Muslim men of Pakistani or Bangladeshi descent. A spokesman from Northumbria Police said that people on social media should ensure they do not post anything that could be considered offensive.
Turkey's state agency for religious affairs came under fire for declaring that girls as young as nine years may marry under Islamic law. They also endorsed marriage for boys as young as 12 years old. Child marriages are common in Turkey. [...]
Saudi Princess Aidan,confided to French newspaper, LeMonde, that the ruling House of Saud secretly engages in sexual slavery, in addition to buying or renting children for sex from impoverished areas in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Djibouti, Somalia, Nigeria, Romania, and Bulgaria. Princess Aidan is the ex-wife of the Saudi Prince, Al Waleed bin Talal, who recently was arrested in the anti-corruption purges in the country. She said those who accuse others of corruption and money laundering are in fact highly corrupted themselves.
