Mike Pompeo

Pompeo to meet with Kim Jong Un for denuclearization talks

Pompeo has met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un twice already, but this upcoming meeting on Thursday will be the first since Kim had the uncommon pleasure of meeting with US President Donald Trump in Singapore on June 12th.
Trump made his way into the history books by being the first sitting POTUS to meet with a North Korean leader since the war.
At his meeting with Trump, Kim committed to dismantling his nuclear arsenal and to ditch his nuclear program altogether in exchange for certain guarantees.

Pompeo postpones 2+2 dialogue with India

Meetings in the US between the foreign and defense ministers of both the US and India were slated to be held on the 6th of July, which was the rescheduled date from two previous appointments, similarly postponed by the United States. The likely reasoning behind this action is the announcement of meetings between POTUS Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on 16 July.

Assange Is a Journalist, Should Not Be Persecuted for Publishing the Truth

Last week, rallies in support of Julian Assange were held around the world. We participated in two #AssangeUnity events seeking to #FreeAssange in Washington, DC.
This is the beginning of a new phase of the campaign to stop the persecution of Julian Assange and allow him to leave the Ecuadorian Embassy in London without the threat of being arrested in the UK or facing prosecution by the United States.

Iran responds to Pompeo’s demands

A response to Pompeo’s ridiculous demands of Iran in order to avoid US sanctions has been issued by the Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif. The statement covers not only Trump’s erratic behaviour and his serial withdrawal to multilateral agreements, as well as the threats to other multinational organizations, but it also delves into the history of US-Iran relations going back a few decades, just in case Mke Pompeo happened to be suffering a bit of amnesia on the matter, or hasn’t bothered to read up on the subject.

Trump’s North Korea Play: a Ploy to Secure Vast Deposits of Rare Earth Elements?

This may not be about condos on North Korean beaches after all. Arguably, the heart of the matter in the Trump administration’s embrace of Kim Jong-un has everything to do with one of the largest deposits of rare earth elements (REEs) in the world, located only 150 km northwest of Pyongyang and potentially worth billions of US dollars.

US blasts China’s human rights record, as it leaves “hypocritical” UN Human Rights Council (Video)

Pompeo on UNHRC: “Once noble vision turned into exercise of shameless hypocrisy”
Pompeo singled out these three countries as having abhorrent human rights records: China, Cuba and Venezuela.

6 years ago today, Assange was sent into exile at Ecuador Embassy (Video)

On Tuesday June 19th, 2012, Julian Assange walked into the Ecuador’s embassy in London to claim asylum.
The WikiLeaks founder walked into the Ecuadorian embassy and claimed asylum under the UN’s human rights declaration. This followed an unsuccessful attempt to appeal against his deportation to Sweden to face allegations of rape.
The following morning on June 20th the Metropolitan police declared that Assange, who is still under bail conditions following his unsuccessful appeal to extradition, had breached those conditions.

US issues list of 47 demands to North Korea

It would seem that the manner in which the denuclearization of North Korea must be performed before  sanctions may be lifted has been determined by Washington.
The Japanese Foreign Minister, Taro Kono, describes a list of demands which was delivered to Pyongyang by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during his visit.
As to whether these demands have been agreed upon by Kim’s regime isn’t included in the statement.

While Trump makes peace with Kim, his Treasury secretary slaps Russia with yet more sanctions

While Donald Trump was off in Singapore trying to avert a third world war, his Treasury secretary was busy at home, trying to start one.
Steven Mnuchin used the U.S. president’s absence from Washington for a historic peace summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as an opportunity to jack up sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Islamophobia at the Highest Levels As Trump Mainstreams Anti-Muslim Bigotry

Imagine that a nominee for secretary of state had shared platforms with white nationalist Richard B. Spencer and been given a major award by his National Policy Institute, which describes itself as “an independent organization dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States and around the world.” With that on his record, is it likely the nominee would have been confirmed, or nominated in the first place, to head the State Department?
