Lowe’s hardware store, a chain throughout the United States and Canada, has two new hires this week: a man and his dog. But they aren’t just any human-canine duo. Owen, whose surname has not been released, has previously suffered from a brain injury which he says has made it difficult for him to find employment. Blue, his canine companion, is his service dog.
One little voice may often not change much, but 90,000 of those small voices make a difference. They were apparently enough to force the UK supermarket Waitrose to remove all of Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide bottles from their shelves.
GMO Free USA has some advice for you this memorial weekend. Take your unused Roundup spray bottles and jugs back to the retailer who sold them to you, and tell them that carcinogenic chemicals aren’t patriotic.
Lowe’s and Home Depot were recently targeted in a campaign by activists urging the stores to stop selling neonicotinoid pesticides, a likely culprit in the decimation of bee and butterfly colonies. It looks as if at least one of the mega retailers listened.
