The West Must Alter its Libya Policy

This almost three year old assessment of the Libyan quagmire reinforces vividly today the need for a new UN and US (West) policy towards Libya, abandoning their selection, not the Libyan people’s, of Serraj and the GNA/PC and their Muslim Brotherhood backers which specifically includes as their main supporters two regional powers, Turkey and Qatar.
The U.N. (and US) must find a consensus candidate to be an interim Prime Minister to immediately form a government and get Haftar to agree to the man (or woman’s) candidacy.
America’s Policy Towards Libya Changes Yet Again

Over this weekend, news has been emerging of a united and hardening position of all branches of US Government, including the White House, stridently speaking out against Haftar’s efforts to take militarily Tripoli.
This development effectively renders Trump’s now famous call to Haftar as irrelevant.
Libya’s Proxy War Intensifies

Regardless of the UN arms embargo, yet more weapons are flowing into Libya, to both sides, following the assault on the capital by Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar’s Forces, started in early April, that now threatens to escalate into a full on proxy war between regional powers, expanding the intensity of the civil war expeditiously.

A French made fighter jet, a Mirage F1, was shot down on Monday of this week over Tripoli by forces fighting for the liberation of Tripoli from extremist militias.
As stated earlier the Libyan National Army (LNA) captured the mercenary pilot on Monday but by Wednesday evening, his claim to be Portuguese was doubted by his interrogators.
The LNA, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter, released video footage on Tuesday of a man in bloodied clothes.
