The Chinese telecommunications company Huawei recently joined a very exclusive roster of companies that the United States deems a “security threat” to itself. The script used to demonize the Chinese telecom has been seen before, with Russia’s Kaspersky Lab. That company has borne the pain that comes with being utterly scapegoated, without hard evidence (sound familiar?), and with judgment having taken place based on conjecture and sloppy reasoning.

Russian Kaspersky Lab & Microsoft find common ground

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity company said Thursday that it plans to withdraw its complaints against IT giant Microsoft from the European Commission and German Federal Cartel Office (FCA), which were previously filed on the grounds that the global IT giant was using its dominant position on the market to unfairly promote its own antivirus solutions.

Cyber expert and FSB officer reported arrested in Russia on treason charges

The Russian media is reporting today that Ruslan Stoyanov, a manager working at the Kaspersky Lab, Russia’s leading cyber security and anti-virus provider, has been arrested by Russia’s counter-intelligence agency the FSB.
The FSB’s involvement, and the fact that Stoyanov is apparently being charged with treason, inevitably provokes speculation that he was providing information to the intelligence agency of some foreign government.
