While the Trump Regime keeps trying to entertain the public with Trump as the ringmaster of the circus, there are actually real things happening, most of them terrible.

Nebraska Republican Ben Sasse whines bout Trump a lot. But when it comes to voting, Trump has little to complain about. Sasse has been with him 87.5% of the time on roll call votes-- far more than Susan Collins (R-ME), Jon McCain (R-AZ), Rand Paul (R-KY), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Bob Corker (R-TN), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) or Mike Lee (R-UT).

Last month, Justice Democrats commissioned an important report, The Future of the Party-- A Progressive Vision For A Populist Democrat Party by Sean McElwee. You should read the whole thing at that link. The short version: "The Democratic Party is at a crossroads as the 2018 election approaches."

Last Tuesday, one of the biggest victories for progressives was Kara Eastman's win in the Nebraska Democratic primary. She beat Blue Dog and DCCC endorsee Brad Ashford 20,239 (51.43%) to 19,113 (48.57%).

Ashford lost the debate badly-- so the DCCC told him to stop debatingExcept for the inappropriate use of the word "moderates" to characterize reactionaries, I loved Wedneday's wrap up in the Washington Post by James Hohman of Tuesday's primary elections. Oh yeah and the word "far left" to describe actual moderates. But that's why the Beltway media does.

Progressive champion Kara Eastman defeats the DCCC, the Blue Dogs and the New Dems-- our heroAll across the country there are counties and districts where Bernie beat Hillary in 2016 (and many where Bernie got more votes on primary day than Trump as well).

Many outsiders tend to think of Nebraska as another hopeless red ink state. But it's not. The Omaha-based 2nd district is a nice normal all-American swing district. In 2012 Obama won narrowly; in 2012 Romney won narrowly and in 2016 Trump beat Hillary 48.2 to 46.0%. The PVI is R+4. The current congressman is Republican Don Bacon, who beat Blue Dog Democrat (an "ex"-Republican himself) Brad Ashford, in 2016.

Sunday I was surprised to see California wing-nut Mimi Walters, pushing out a message about how GOP tax policies are helping Americans. They're not-- especially not in her Orange County district, where people are paying significantly higher taxes because of those policies that she voted for. Katie Porter is Walters' progressive opponent in the June 5th jungle primary.
