European Powers Prepare to Scrap Dollar in Iran Trade as Disgust With “America First” Policies Mount

VIENNA, AUSTRIA — While the White House’s frenzied anti-Iran campaign has entailed unprecedented attempts to twist the arms of the United States’ traditional European allies, the pressure may be backfiring – a reality made all the more clear by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s claims that Europe’s three major powers plan to continue trade ties with Iran without the use of the U.S. dollar.

Iranian President says European proposal ‘only contains general commitments’

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has repeatedly declared that Iran will remain committed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as long as the European signatories can compensate for America’s withdrawal from the accord. The Europeans have put on that they are keen to see the plan succeed and have repeatedly sworn their commitment to the deal, but have yet to bring any concrete or specific plans on how this can and will be accomplished to the table.

Iranian President to meet EU leaders, discuss diplomacy, JCPOA, and Middle East

European signatories to the nuclear non proliferation agreement with Iran, termed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have been repeating their commitment to the deal since Trump’s withdrawal in May. However, up until now, no concrete measures have materialized which demonstrate the European resolve to ensure that the economic benefits to Iran of sticking with the deal. Meanwhile, Iran has been declaring that they are not going to remain with the JCPOA and will return to their enrichment programs if Europe doesn’t come through.

Trump’s Iran Scheme Probably Won’t Pay Off

It is as clear as day that President Trump is obsessed with regime change in Iran. What is not made clear is how much his gambit is damaging to Americans and American interests.
Without cause or justification, Mr. Trump pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA), striking a hard blow to America’s European allies – and its own credibility. Moreover, he threatened European countries with secondary sanctions should they continue to trade with Iran.
