Establishment Democrats Rely on Identity Politics to Ignore How Socialism Is Energizing Voters

In searching for an explanation for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s remarkable victory, liberal pundits seem to have settled on the argument that Ocasio-Cortez won because there is a generational and demographic shift occurring in the Democratic Party.
Yet, this argument obscures the role of class politics. It is a deliberate way for Democrats to embrace the success of her campaign and how she and similar candidates are energizing voters while maintaining a distance from the democratic socialist positions on issues that enabled her to prevail.

How Cynical Is the Democratic Party's Support for Identity Politics? (Plus a Note on the Ocasio-Crowley Contest)

Albright: "Younger women, Hillary Clinton will always be there for you" ... plus that other thing she said.by Gaius Publius How cynical is the Democratic Party's support for identity politics? To this observer, it seems impossible not to notice that those in control of the Democratic Party care about "identity politics" — about supporting more women, more people of color, more LGBTQ candidates, etc. — only when it suits them. Mars Needs More Women-- But Not As Much As Congress Does

Two nights ago I went to a meet-and-greet for Rashida Tlaib, an extraordinary former Michigan legislator who is running for the open seat in Detroit formerly held by John Conyers. Like Rashida, Jyoti emphasized in her introduction of the candidate, that this was a time not just to elect more Democrats, but to elect "the right" Democrats. That got my attention. Her goal, though, was a little more "identity politics," more women, more minorities, rather than more progressives, or even more men progressives or minority progressives.

The Untouchables TV series (1959-63) was the first of its kind – a police procedural with explicit violence and action.  Up until then most detective stories focused on the investigation, but The Untouchables featured the gunfights and car chases that became staples of the genre by the 1970s.  It was also subject to investigation by […](Read more...)

Miss America Madness: Pageant removes swimsuit and evening-gown section (Video)

Here is an example of virtue signaling taken to an insane level, as the Miss America beauty contest is doing away with its swimsuit and evening-gown section and will no longer be judging women based on physical appearance.
What is now being labeled a “competition” rather than a pageant, ‘competitors’ will be asked to demonstrate their “soul” and show America their “passion, intelligence and overall understanding of the job of Miss America.”
