Why then, is Round Up, a ‘likely carcinogen,’ still being sold on markets across the United States and sprayed on our food?
Monsanto’s Round Up herbicide, containing the likely-carcinogenic glyphosate, is causing widespread mitochondrial dysfunction in cells. This is associated with a long list of degenerative disease and chronic health conditions including autism, Alzheimer’s, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, type 2 Diabetes, Parkinson’s, and obesity.
Six major food manufacturers – including Nestle, PepsiCo, and Mexican baking company Grupo Bimbo – have been slapped with fines by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, which alleges the companies failed to include labels indicating the use of genetically modified ingredients.
The fines range from $277,400 to just over $1 million, for an estimated total of $3 million.
The world is already well aware of the many nasty effects of pesticides, but in missing its own risk assessment deadline in 2015 for atrazine, glyphosate, and imidacloprid, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency sends a clear message to those concerned about biological diversity and human health. Actor Mark Ruffalo got the chance to do something that many of us could only dream of doing when he told off the CEO of Monsanto, Hugh Grant, in the Green Room at CBS while Ruffalo was waiting to do a segment about his new movie, “Spotlight.”
Ruffalo writes at EcoWatch.com that it was an uncomfortable move for him, but a necessary one, as “we must call out the people who are doing horrible things when they do them.”
