We interviewed Dahr Jamail about his new book, “The End of Ice,” for our podcast, Clearing the FOG, this week. It will be available Monday. Jamail describes the grim reality of human-caused climate distortion. The bottom line is: It is here. It is accelerating. We need to take swift action to attempt to mitigate it and adapt to it as best we can.

Old status quo politicians-- I usually refer to them as careerists-- feel very threatened when Democratic constituencies elect younger non-establishment representatives.

I spoke with a member of Congress today about the paucity of original co-sponsors for the Green New Deal resolution-- it's a non-binding resolution laying out some ideas to work towards, not a proposed law. I asked the member why so few House members (65) signed on. The member told me several things:

WASHINGTON – (Opinion) In recent weeks, support from progressives and establishment liberals has been pouring in for the “Green New Deal,” a plan largely promoted by U.S. Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. The plan claims that it seeks to “transform the U.S. economy in an effort to fight climate change” that would ostensibly push the U.S. from fossil fuels to 100 percent renewable energy in a little over a decade.

The “Green New Deal” includes: rebuilding every home and commercial structure for energy efficiency, ending all traditional forms of energy in the next 10 years, including nuclear energy, building trains across oceans to put an end to air travel, and unionizing all new jobs!

This morning, AOC and Ed Markey unveiled a first-look Green New Deal resolution. Shortest possible version:

But now that AOC is actually getting ready to introduce a formal bill-- although some of the details are still sketchy and up for negotiation-- there are far fewer members... at least so far.
