I know there are many readers here from the UK- Hope you are all well and as warm as can be.Mentioned this cold, winter storm hitting large swathes of UK/Europe the other day.We Don’t Want to Scare People But...It’s Cold, Very Cold. Snow. Wind. It seems that the price has skyrocketed for gas and electricity both on the spot market..  UK doesn't have enough gas to keep it's population warm..

Irony was a guest at the 48th World Economic Forum on Monday when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the stage to deliver a blistering defense of free trade just as the US announced additional tariffs on Chinese solar panels, washing machines, and aluminum and steel exports.
But Modi deftly navigated the increasing protectionist measures taken by the US since US President Donald Trump won the elections.

There is a real possibility that in spite of US attempts to resolve the Korean crisis though economic warfare and the threat of renewed military action, that a totally different approach is being taken about regional powers.
While it has received little media attention, the Eastern Economic Forum in the Russian city of Vladivostok has been the first major international event outside of tense UN meetings where representatives from North and South Korea have been present in the same room in recent years.

Luc Besson's new blockbuster, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, is based on a fantastic and highly influential French graphic novel series Valerian and Laureline. But what I like most about Valerian isn't the creativity and humor of its characters, the originality of its alien worlds, or even its inventive, bold artwork. Nope. Today on Out of Frame, I want to talk about Valerian's ideas.

Competition in the solar industry has led to an intense price war between firms. As the situation stands, US solar panel manufacturers have been unable to keep up with their Chinese competitors, leading to multiple high-profile bankruptcies. While price wars are unpleasant for companies, they are a great thing for consumers.

Dr. Ron Paul would generally agree that sanctions are incompatible with free trade. Whether one believes in free trade or not and generally I do not, one can at an objective level admit that government controlled sanctions are anathema to free trade in every sense of the word.

Every one of the transactions making up these national totals represented a free and voluntary exchange.

Economies are just collections of individuals, no one person on this earth could live beyond the barest of subsistence absent the ability to trade freely. Life without trade would be defined by unrelenting poverty, and for a high percentage, death by starvation, lack of protective clothing, shelter, or all three combined. The free trade that is essential for an individual's productivity and wealth is essential for a country's economy.

I was in Vancouver barely a week after President Trump’s imposition of 20% tariffs on logs imported from Canada. It was also just days before elections that would determine which party controlled the British Columbia Legislature and, thereby, who would serve as the province’s next Premier.
The timing was superb for enjoying the sites of Vancouver but not so good for Trump’s tariffs. Incumbent Premier Christy Clark suggested retaliation in the form of restrictions or an outright ban on thermal coal from the U.S.
