The odds were stacked against a little boy who was born with his brain outside his skull, but he is defying all of them, thanks to a groundbreaking procedure performed at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Sierra Yoder and her husband, Dustin, were sent to a neurologist after Sierra’s 22-week ultrasound. She was soon shocked to learn that the child growing inside her had encephalocele, which causes all or part of the brain to form outside the skull, usually in a “sac-like protrusion.” Encephalocele affects 1 in every 10,000 babies.

Ten Pregnant Women in Dallas Have Suspected Zika Cases

Ten pregnant women in the Dallas area are suspected to have Zika. None of them have developed it from a mosquito bite while in Texas, but all have travelled to Zika-infected countries within the past several months.
Health officials have confirmed that there are more than a dozen cases in North Texas alone. This is particularly concerning, as the virus can spread by a mosquito biting an infected individual and then biting another person, thus carrying the infection.

Great Value and Bountiful Harvest Frozen Veggies Recalled Due to Listeria

The National Frozen Food Corporation has issued a voluntary recall of some of its frozen peas and mixed vegetables due to a possible listeria contamination. Included in the recall are any frozen peas and mixed vegetables packaged between September 2 and June 2 which have the brand name First Street, Bountiful Harvest, Great Value, Market Pantry, and Live Smart. Green Cuisine is also recalling their pesto salad with arugula due to possible listeria contamination.

Texas Man Has Contracted Flesh-Eating Bacteria

Brian Parrott, 50, from San Jacinto, Texas is now in the hospital struggling to survive after contracting flesh-eating bacteria from a recent beach trip to Galveston, Texas.
On June 12, Parrott took his family to the beach to enjoy a nice day out. But what should have been a lovely day turned quickly into a nightmare. Over the next few days after his family’s seashore adventure, Parrott started to become increasingly ill.

New Blood Test Can Predict a Heart Attack Within 5 Years

Researchers from Imperial College London and University College London have found that “high levels of antibodies – molecules produced by the immune system – are linked to a low risk of heart problems,” even in people who have other risk factors. The team has developed a new test that looks for levels of protective immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies, which appear to guard against a heart attack even when a patient has hypertension and high cholesterol.
