Neutralizing the breakdown of gut microbes may be the key to maintaining a healthy heart. How? A compound in some red wines, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and grape seed oils known as DMB can alter gut microbes in a way that might help prevent heart disease.
In the wake of the Flint water crisis, two more deaths from Legionnaires’ disease have been confirmed, bringing the total up from 10 to 12. In 2014 and 2015, the state found 91 cases of this illness. It is believed that at least half of the cases are associated with the recent water crisis, though at this time they are still uncertain. [1] [2]

However, a recent study has found pregnant women who eat some of the same fish they’ve been told to avoid may confer protective effects on fetal brain development and protection against autism.
Parents have it a little easier when dining out these days: Applebee’s has decided to remove soda from the children’s menu, with IHOP following suit. Children and parents can still request their favorite bubbly beverage, but it simply won’t appear on the menu. [1]
University of Minnesota researchers say that people are more likely to purchase a healthy food if it is labeled with a symbol suggesting it is healthy, as opposed to having the actual word healthy on it.
Lead researcher Dr. Traci Mann of the University of Minnesota, had this to say:

Organic food demand is so booming that multiple efforts are underway to support the acquisition of organic farmland. Even Cost-Co is getting in on the action by offering to help farmers buy land and farm equipment. People’s huge appetite for organics has been ignored by Big Ag for so long that land to grow food organically in the U.S. is rather scarce.
The Pennsylvania medical marijuana bill is back in the hands of the state House after the Senate passed the chamber by a vote of 42-7 Tuesday. If the House passes the bill, it will go to Governor Tom Wolf’s desk, where it is expected to be signed. The bill has been in the works for more than 2 years, and the volley between the 2 branches has been ongoing for more than a year.
