What are the central differences between Latin and Eastern theology? Is there are common thread of difference that gives rise to two different approaches to divinity, knowledge, revelation and eschatology? Yes, I argue. I discuss Augustine, Aquinas, absolute divine simplicity as borrowed from Aristotle and Plato, the Logos, the Greek triad, I Am as “pure being,” Anselm, the analogia entis/chain of being, apophatic theology, theosis, created grace, divine energies, divine ideas, and the supposed ‘beatific vision.’
I am often asked for a basic approach to my philosophy and worldview: Given our immersion in an image-dominated culture which is rapidly moving away from the necessary skills of reading and comprehension, the irony of the loss of literacy will likely lead to something akin to older iconographic importance for mass audiences. We already see this trend with the popularity of Instagram and memes – another version of pale attempts at icons.

A reply to various so-called Orthodox and Roman Catholic apologist attempts to reply to my essay. Ultimately these attempts fail because they do not understand hypostatic properties and the orthodox distinctions of will, nature, person and operation. As a result, both faux “Orthodox” and Roman Catholics congeal into a mass lump of heretical perennialism, as generic as their generic theism.
