EMILY's List

TX-15 is a long skinny piece of gerrymandered south Texas-- they call it a "fajita strip"-- that starts in the suburbs northwest of San Antonio and at Seguin and meanders down to the Rio Grande Valley. It includes all of Duval, Guadaloupe, Jim Hogg, Brooks, Live Oaks and Karnes counties and portions of Hidalgo and Wilson counties. Most of the people live in the McAllen/Edinburg area, in deep blue Hidalgo County. Over half the votes from TX-15 come from Hidalgo and although Obama only beat Romney 57-42% districtwide, he took Hidalgo 70-29%. The district is over 80% Latino.

I guess the could blame the walking conflicts-of-interest who inhabit the DCCC and EMILY's List, which pushed Graham so hard, but if you're taking any advice from either the DCCC or EMILY's List-- other than using it as a negative indictator-- there's already a problem. Although Graham was careful to hide just how right-wing her instincts are, she never portrayed herself as anything but a cliche-spouting careerist.

They accomplished their top goal-- raising an immense amount of money to pay their executives and run their operation. Their candidates mostly lost but winning is only important to EMILY's List insofar as it helps goose the contribution flow.

DSCC Executive Director Guy Cecil will reap big rewards for his incredible string of abject failures yesterdayGuy Cecil, is the Executive Director of the DSCC. He wants to run the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.

Right after the 2010 midterms we tried to explain some of the DCCC's most corrupt practices; you should read it because it will help you understand how, uncorrected, everything has gotten worse and worse. So much worse that the DCCC is essentially ineffective at doing it's core job of reelecting Democratic incumbents and electing Democratic challengers.

The news from Hawaii yesterday was great. Progressive Senator Brian Schatz beat corrupt conservative New Dem Colleen Hanabusa in the two Puna precincts on the Big Island that didn't vote in last weekend's primary because of Tropical Storm Iselle. Schatz went into yesterday's vote with a 1,635 vote lead. While Hanabusa spent the week whining about "voter irregularities" and making all sorts of demands to change the voting rules, Schatz was in Puna helping his constituents with storm recovery.

The William M. Colmer Middle School is in Pascagoula, Mississippi. 46% of the students are African-Americans and 15% are Hispanic. 79% of the students are eligible for a free or reduced-price lunch program, somewhat higher than the average for Mississippi (71%). The school is named for Representative William M. Colmer who died on September 9, 1980 (age 90) and is buried at Machpelah Cemetery right their in Pascagoula.
