Ecuadorian Embassy in London Cuts Julian Assange Off from the World

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was given asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in 2012, but the Ecuadorian government now has cut off his internet access and will not allow him to have visitors. Since the Director of the CIA Mike Pompeo recently said that the Trump administration considers Assange to be a threat to the US, it is reasonable to assume that the Ecuadorian government is cooperating with the US and UK to force Assange out of the embassy so he can be extradited to the US to be imprisoned for life - or worse.

Precarious Communications: Julian Assange, Internet Access and Ecuador

Being a netizen, to use that popular term of sociological derivation, can be a difficult business. It presumes digital engagement, often of the sharper sort.  To become a fully-fledged member of such citizenry, however, presumes access, a degree of Internet speed and appropriate platforms. Absent those, then different forms of activism must be sought.

Ecuador Cuts Wikileaks’ Julian Assange’s Internet Over Social Media Posts

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Ecuador’s government said Wednesday it has cut off WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s internet connection at the nation’s London embassy after his recent activity on social media decrying the arrest of a Catalan separatist politician.
In a statement, officials said Assange’s recent posts “put at risk” the good relations Ecuador maintains with nations throughout Europe and had decided as of Tuesday to suspend his internet access “in order to prevent any potential harm.”
Assange has since gone silent on social media.

Ecuador Quietly Grants Transnational Corporations Rights To Protected Forests and Indigenous Land

Ecuador (Editorial) — The tropical Andes of Ecuador are at the top of the world list of biodiversity hotspots in terms of vertebrate species, endemic vertebrates, and endemic plants. Ecuador has more orchid and hummingbird species than Brazil, which is 32 times larger, and more diversity than the entire USA.

The UK’s Hidden Role in Assange’s Detention

It now emerges that the last four years of Julian Assange’s effective imprisonment in the Ecuadorean embassy in London have been entirely unnecessary. In fact, they depended on a legal charade.
Behind the scenes, Sweden wanted to drop the extradition case against Assange back in 2013. Why was this not made public? Because Britain persuaded Sweden to pretend that they still wished to pursue the case.

Important Decision On Assange Legal Case Is Imminent

A legal decision to be made tomorrow will determine whether the UK will drop its arrest warrant against Julian Assange. The warrant was issued in connection with the Swedish investigation of Assange, which never produced charges against him and has now ended. If the UK does drop their warrant, it may force the revelation of a US extradition order against him.
