Neither Paul Ryan nor Miss McConnell could care less what Herr Trumpf or any other GOP candidates have to say about minority groups. When each one of them denounced his horribly bigoted remarks about Muslims yesterday each was tepid and unengaged.

This morning at the Values Voter Summit, when Marco Rubio announced that Boehner was resigning from the speakership and leaving Congress on October 30, the very right-wing audience broke out into raucous applause that they were getting rid of a mainstream conservative.

Although Rick Santorum has reassured his far right-wing allies that Collins has to occasionally make believe dh's a moderate to trick Mainers, she never betrays the GOP when push comes to shove, voters still expect her to come through for the mainstream when it's important. Yesterday it was important, very, very important.

Charlie Dent was first elected to Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley congressional seat (PA-15) in 2004, a D+2 district that had given both Gore and Kerry the narrowest of victories. Dent took the seat when incumbent Rick Santorum ran for the Senate. The district was gerrymandered by the Republican state legislature in 2010 and is now an R+2 district that includes red-leaning parts of Berks, Lebanon and and Dauphin counties.

On Saturday, John Culberson (R-TX), marched out of the GOP House caucus meeting that had resolved to shut down the government, shouting "Let's Roll," a true suicide-bombing terrorist. Except his neatly gerrymandered R+13 district (which Romney won 60-39%) won't extract any penalty from its harebrained congressman.
