Before Bruce Barlett served in George H.W. Bush’s Treasury Department, he was a Reagan economics advisor and before that he worked as an advisor to Ron Paul. He labored away as a tax specialist for the Heritage Foundation. Since then he’s quit the Republican Party and is now an independent, although, he likes to say, an independent Reaganite.
The Democratic Party-- or at least the DCCC-- loves to recruit so-called "ex"-Republicans to run for Congress. Normal Democrats know better than to listen to a Republican about Democratic Party strategy... at least most of the time. That excerpt from Arne Carlson is worth considering though, even if he was Minnesota's Republican governor from 1991 through the end of 1998.
Is Chris Wallace allowed to say this on Fox News Sunday: "But Director Mulvaney, independent experts say what the president just said there isn't true." Obviously he could have been talking about Putin-Gate, about Trump's spat with the NRA, about Puerto Rico, about anything at all Trump has said to the public... ever. But he was talking about the Trump/Ryan tax plan. Remember Bruce Bartlett, a Jack Kemp economist who was one of the Reagan advisors responsible for the mythical Reagan tax cuts.

During the Bush II term he strayed firther and further from Republican Party party line and helped write Bush II out of the conservative movement.Last year he started warming to the idea of a Trump run for the presidency as a way to cure what ails the GOP.
We keep getting told not to demean Trump because if you do, you'll be demeaning his supporters. Yeah, so? Isn't that the point? No one with an ability to exercise a modicum of critical thought would take Trump seriously for two seconds. Every word out of his mouth is a lie or is so twisted that its relationship to reality is approximately equivalent to the reality on reality TV-- mixed with the prescription drugs that inhabit the tiny brains of the people who drool over Trump's simple-minded nonsense.
