Erdogan: a mad sultan or a far-right South American style dictator?
Neo-Ottoman foreign policies combined with a singular, egotistical attitude have earned Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the nickname ‘Sultan’ and even ‘Mad Sultan’.

The anti-war journalist and investigative reporter John Pilger has been a long time friend and supporter of fellow Australian Julian Assange. Assange, once the darling of the western liberal media when he exposed the war crimes of George W. Bush’s America, fell from their favour when he applied an equally vigorous amount of scrutiny to the war crimes, lies and lack of ethics of the Obama administration.
But Pilger, like Assange is a man of principle and has consistently helped expose Assange’s plight to the wider world.
In one swift move Sweden shifted the burden of Julian Assange’s plight from themselves directly onto Britain. Watching things like a hawk is the United States which has traditionally enjoyed what can only be described as an air-tight alliance with both Sweden and the UK. This is more true in 2017 than it has been in recent decades.
Julian Assange has literally stuck his head out of the parapet at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to speak to his supporters and members of the press.
He thanked his legal team and millions of well-wishes across the globe. At a time he seemed emotional when reflecting on just how much of life he has missed out on during his effective imprisonment in the Embassy which began in 2012.
In his remarks he criticised the EU’s policy of extraditing without charge, a policy that in spite of Brexit, the UK is still obliged to.
Three weeks ago I wrote an article for The Duran in which I pointed out (1) that Julian Assange has never been charged in Sweden with rape (2) that the extradition proceedings Sweden brought against him in Britain were supposedly brought in order to compel him to come to Sweden to be questioned about the allegations of rape made against him there (3) that this purpose was fulfilled in November 2016 when Assange was questioned by the Swedish prosecutor about the rape allegations in the Ecuadorian embassy in Britai
A source close to the Foreign Ministry of Ecuador has said that the Ecuadorian Government has been urging Britain to arrange for the safe passage of Julian Assange from Ecuador’s London embassy to Ecuador.
The statement reads,
“Given that the European arrest warrant no longer holds, Ecuador will now be intensifying its diplomatic efforts with the UK so that Julian Assange can gain safe passage in order to enjoy his asylum in Ecuador”.
Sweden has formally dropped its case against Julian Assange. The rape allegations against the Wikileaks founder which many described as a witch hunt from the start, have now been revoked by the Swedish authorities who once sought to prosecute him.

Israeli leaders have spoken out about revelations that the Washington Post’s story based on leaks from a conversation that US President Donald Trump had with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov may have compromised an Israeli mole embedded with ISIS.
Israel’s Defence Minister, the well known hardliner Avigdor Lieberman Tweeted the following,
The expression ‘truth is the first casualty of war’ is an understatement, but the fact is that in the fog of war, well intentioned but misleading information can be equally damaging as a white lie.
Various English language news organisations from the Middle East and beyond have reported that US, UK and unspecified ‘rebel’ troops have illegally entered Syria from Jordan, thus opening up a new front in the war.
It is well known that Jordan is a close ally of both the US and UK and that it regularly hosts military contingents from both states.
A widespread computer virus attack known as ‘WannaCry’ has been compromising computers with obsolete operating systems across the world. This should be the opening sentence of just about every article on this subject, but unfortunately it is not.
The virus does not attack modern computer operating systems, it is designed to attack the Windows XP operating system that is so old, it was likely used in offices in the World Trade Center prior to September 11 2001, when the buildings collapsed. Windows XP was first released on 25 August, 2001.
