Olive Reincarnations and Elvis on Mars: Boris Johnson Becomes British PM

The BBC World Service took its listeners to the English cathedral town of Ely, set in picturesque Cambridgeshire, during the course of a hot July 23 in an effort to take the pulse of the country.  Well, at least that particular, erratic pulse. It found, for the most part, a certain enthusiasm for Boris Johnson, the fop-haired, bumbling wonder of the Conservatives, a quite literally inventive journalist, former magazine editor and Mayor of London who has become the new prime minister of Britain.

Facebook vs Citizens

A wonderfully written recent article on the ethics of Facebook Inc provoked me to think about my own position. It’s oft said in defence of the software that Facebook is a forum for progressive public debate, an ideal and desirable stimulus for democracy. So I was pleased the article stimulated a lively exchange of ideas on a contentious issue, the ethics of Facebook itself.

Pro-EU forces within UK civil service attack Jeremy Corbyn (Video)

Corbyn has called for a “speedy and thorough independent investigation” into reported claims by senior members of the UK civil service that he is “too frail” to be prime minister.
The Labour leader has been under immense pressure to commit his party into officially supporting a second Brexit referendum, for which, to his credit, Corbyn has resisted.
